Latvia to expand economic ties with Sri Lanka

Republic of Latvia in Sri Lanka Consul, Thomas F. Daetwyler and Counsellor Rudolf Gauhl visited Riga/Latvia and met with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from the Latvian Investment and Development Agency. Matters of bilateral interests were discussed and ways to expand political, cultural and economical ties between the two countries were also discussed. Lanka-Latvia business ties tighten

http://www.nation.lk/2008/11/30/eco8pic2.jpgThe Sri Lanka-Latvia Inter Parliamentary Cooperation Group was formed in Riga Latvia recently, and on November 15, the inauguration of Sri Lanka-Latvia Parliamentary Friendship Association was held at the Parliamentary Complex presided by Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara MP, who delivered the welcome speech.

In the presence of the committee members, D.E.W. Gunasekera MP was elected the President and Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretaries, Treasurer and Executive Committee members were also selected from among other members.

Consul General Thomas F. Daetwyler of the Republic of Latvia was out of the country and he was represented by Amal Peiris and Nawziya Hossen, PA to the Consul General. Peiris gave a speech on the bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and Latvia.
A Latvian Parliamentarian and a business delegation are planning to visit Sri Lanka in February 2009, in order to promote closer cooperation and to study potential areas of trade, tourism and investment between the two countries.
